The wild horses of Sand Wash Basin have lifted our spirits and helped us find our souls. Our passion to photograph these beauties, capturing moments not to be had again, has led us on a journey to find homes for as many of the displaced wild horses as possible, when possible. Have you ever been to a place where you feel at peace, humbled and grateful? This is how we feel when we visit the wild horses of Sand Wash Basin. The feeling of freedom reins here, and as horse lovers, seeing these horses wild and free is a feeling we can not describe, it must be felt.
However freedom comes at a cost, a cost these horses cannot afford, nor do they understand.
Photographing the wild horses has brought Amanda and I to a passion filled purpose. Our purpose which became very clear after seeing families of wild horses, families we had named babies from, families we have photographed for years; brutally chased into a trap by a helicopter. This is what the Bureau of Land management calls "managing the horses"; round ups. The look on the horses faces as if they are screaming for help. The yell from the mighty stallion who beckons his family, unfortunately his cries may never be answered. This is just the beginning of our "WHY" the rest of the story will be written as we continue to help the beautiful souls who gave us great reason for cause and a new purpose, filled by our passion for photography.
