Banditas has brought home 29 Sand Wash Basin wild horses, along with 4 others: 2 (bonded) from McCullough Peaks, another from South Steens, and a very special 4 year old mare from Nevada who only knew the life, of the holding cell she was born and raised. Banditas has placed them on properties located in Colorado. Whether the land is leased, donated, or homes of our board members, the horses have a wonderful, fabulous, new freedom: either with family or new friends.
Banditas Wild Horse Promise has collaborated with Steadfast Steeds, a sanctuary run and owned by Tracey Harmon, located in Glade, Colorado. Three bonded sale authority horses were given safe haven here at her sanctuary. Prince and his 2 long time mares have been together for many years; we worked very hard to ensure they would not be separated, and thanks to Steadfast Steeds they now have their next best freedom together forever. Please take a moment to check out their vision and wonderful efforts to offer homes to many wild horses that would not have found homes otherwise.
Banditas also purchased four mare sale authority (older horses) from the March 2022 adoption event, three gelding sale horses from the October internet adoption, and three more mares from the May 2023 auction. They are now living their best lives running on 1000's of acres, as wild and free at "The Wild Horse Refuge" a sanctuary owned and operated by Pat Craig of The Wild Animal Sanctuary.

Zeppelin - A true rescue story
Our paths cross when our hearts are open - CJ
Banditas received a call 3 months after the first adoption event, March 2022. Zeppelin, a mare from Sand Wash basin, was not taking to domestic life very well. As a matter of fact she was starving to death, and in very poor condition. Banditas was put in a very difficult situation, for if we did not a find her a home, she was to be returned to the Canon City, Bureau of Land Management holding facility.
Our land plots were filled, however; we quickly took action and that is how we found property to lease in Wiggins, Colorado. With the daily help from Jill, and a Devils garden wild horse named Merlin, she slowly started her recovery. Although the damage from human interference was done, we are hopeful that one day, she will let us get a little further into her world, into her space, and let us become a part of her herd.
As you can see her transformation was nothing less than spectacular, and now she has nine of her Sand Wash friends to share her "new" freedom with.
